Setup Filezilla Client
Follow the instruction to setup Filezilla client:
Step 1. Geting FileZilla Client
First, you need to download the FileZilla client from Filezilla-project.org.
Once your file is downloaded, then you need to install the Filezilla client on your computer.
Step 2. Collecting FTP Details
First, you need to get the FTP details of your hosting account. Login to your hosting account navigates to FTP Accounts under the Files section.
Here you find your FTP hostname, username, and port. If you don’t know the password, reset it by pressing the Change account password button.
If you need a new account, simply scrolling to Add FTP Account.
Step 3. Adding a Site to FileZilla
Oper your FTP client and access Site Manager. You can find the Site Manager in the File menu.
Once the site Manager window pops up, click New Site and fill pieces of information in the columns with your FTP details.
Here is a short explanation of each line:
- Protocol-For exchanging files over any network. Select FTP- File Transfer Protocol.
- Host – Host is the most important case. You need to use your domain as the host by writing ftp.yourdomain.com.
- Port– The FTP server data port. The default port is 21.
- Encryption– The way your data will be encrypted. You need to choose the Use explicit FTP over TLS if available option.
- Logon– the type of login, choose Normal.
- User -Your FTP username.
- Pasword– Your FTP password.
If your domain is not pointing to your host, you can use the server IP that is specified in FTP Accounts.
Step 4. Connecting FTP Server
Once you have filled in all of the required information, then click on the Connect button.
If you set the Encryption as Use explicit FTP over TLS if available, you will be promoted with the TLS certificate inspection screen, click on the OK button.
Now you can see the directory listing of your FTP server.
If you receive a connection timeout error when you trying to access your server. To fix this issue, navigate to the Edit menu and click on the setting option.
Select page Connection, here you will see Timeout. You can change it from 20 to 200 if you need.
This will extend the time when FileZilla tries to reconnect. Then click on the OK button.
Step 5. How to use FileZilla Client
Hosting control panels usually have upload limits. FileZilla helps you to transfer local files to the webserver. If you want to upload a larger file or transfer files, you need to use FileZilla or FTP client.
To Upload a File
If you need to upload a file to your web server, select the files you would like to upload.
Then right-click and you can see many options is there. Select the Upload option.
